Introduction to modelling in UML

UML (Unified Modelling Language), a graphical diagram language, is the most important tool for modelling and communication between IT project stakeholders (including customer). Participants of this course learn basic rules of object-oriented analysis/design and create their first UML diagrams. After this course, system development and integration specialists will start their UML adventure. Business specialists that participate in IT projects on client/user side will be able to read and understand dfiagrams created by system analysts and designers. 

The training is for:

  • project managers, analysts and designers, who have not used UML yet,
  • employees of companies that buy IT systems, who define requirements together with analysts of a system provider and review analysis dopcuments received from the provider.

Prerequisites:

  • basic computer skills.

By the end of the training participants will have learned:

  • rules of object-oriented analysis and design,
  • how to read UML diagrams,,
  • how to create simple UML diagrams.

Training duration: 2 days.

Methodology: lectures and exercises. Most of the time is spent on doing exercises and their discussion. Trainees actively participate in the training.

Training outline:

Day 1.

  1. UML - introduction.
  2. Activity diagrams in business process modelling.
  3. Use cases and use case diagrams.
  4. Rules of object-oriented analysis and design.
  5. Basic concepts of object-oriented analysis and design: class, object, relation.
  6. Class finding techniques.

Day 2.

  1. Class diagrams and object diagrams.
  2. Activity diagrams in desigining algorithms.
  3. State-machine diagrams.
  4. Overview of other UML diagrams.
